Measures the absenteeism rate by seniority categories.

Calculation steps:

1. choose time frame
2. identify the total number of working days for employees in each seniority category
3. identify the number of days lost due to the phenomenon of absenteeism for employees in each seniority category
4. divide the number of days lost due to absenteeism by the total number of working days available.

Example:

Time frame: 1st of July to 31st of July

Working days in time frame: 23 days

No. of employees in time frame: 100 out of which

1. 30 are in seniority category of 1-3 years
2. 70 are in seniority category of 3-5 years

No. of days lost by employees: 50

1. 20 are lost by employees in category 1-3 years
2. 30 are lost by employees in category 3-5 years

Total no. of working days in time frame for category 1-3 years population: 30 x 23 = 690

1-3 years absenteeism rate = (20 / 690) x 100 = 0.028 x 100 = 2.8%

Total no. of working days in time frame for category 3-5 years population: 70 x 23 = 1610

3-5 years absenteeism rate = (30 / 1610) x 100 = 0.018 x 100 = 1.8%

Note:

If the number of employees in the time frame fluctuates due to employees leaving or joining the company you should calculate and use in the formula the average number of employees within the time frame.

Average no. of employees = (no. of employees at the start of the time frame + no. of employees at the end of the time frame)/2
