Absenteeism by performance
Measures the absenteeism rate by performance rating categories.
Calculation steps:
- choose time frame
- identify the total number of working days for employees in each performance rating category
- identify the number of days lost due to the phenomenon of absenteeism for employees in each performance rating category
- divide the number of days lost due to absenteeism by the total number of working days available
- express the value as a percentage
Example:
Time frame: 1st of July to 31st of July
Working days in time frame: 23 days
No. of employees in time frame: 100 out of which
- 30 are in the performance rating category 1 - high performer
- 70 are in the performance rating category 2 - meets expectations
No. of days lost by employees: 50
- 20 are lost by employees in the performance rating category 1 - high performer
- 30 are lost by employees in the performance rating category 2 - meets expectations
Total no. of working days in time frame for category 1 population: 30 x 23 = 690
High performer absenteeism rate = (20 / 690) x 100 = 0.028 x 100 = 2.8%
Total no. of working days in time frame for category 2 population: 70 x 23 = 1610
Meets expectations absenteeism rate = (30 / 1610) x 100 = 0.018 x 100 = 1.8%
Note:
If the number of employees in the time frame fluctuates due to employees leaving or joining the company you should calculate and use in the formula the average number of employees within the time frame.
Average no. of employees = (no. of employees at the start of the time frame + no. of employees at the end of the time frame)/2
