Lateral mobility rate
Measures the rate of lateral moves out of the total number of internal movements (promotions, transfers, downgrades).
A lateral move is considered any move on a job that is on the same company level.
Calculation steps:
- choose time frame
- identify the total number of moves within the company including: promotions, transfers, downgrades, sideway moves, job rotations, etc.
- identify the number of moves considered lateral
- divide the number of lateral moves by the total number of moves
A high rate of lateral mobility rate can be an indicator of:
- trusting your employees to take different jobs that imply a similar responsibility
- opportunities for employees to identify their skills and choose their career trajectory
- exposure of employees to different areas within the company with the objective of enhancing their value to the company
- a process of high automation of employee activity and the reorientation of employees
